First Light Wassail
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
4 cinnamon sticks
3 lemon slices
1/2 cup water
2 cups pineapple juice
2 cups orange juice
1/2 cup lemon juice
6 cups dry red wine
1 cup dry sherry
Lemon slices for garnish
Directions:
Combine the sugar, cinnamon sticks, lemon slices, and water in a large saucepan, and bring to a boil over high heat. Boil for 5 minutes and strain. Discard the cinnamon sticks and lemon slices. Pour the pineapple juice, orange juice, lemon juice, wine, and sherry into a large saucepan, and simmer over medium heat. Do not boil. Combine the wine mixture and sugar syrup in a serving bowl. Ladle into mugs, and garnish with lemon slices. Serve hot. Makes 20 servings.Print recipe
